Sally is an indigenous woman from Lismore who has nine kids. The relationships with her children and their fathers have several challenges. Sally also has been in and out of corrections and rehab in recent years.
About a year ago when Sally first showed up at The Winsome Café, she was rough sleeping at various itinerant locations. The Winsome provided Sally with a tent. As Winsome staff got to know Sally and her situation, they advocated strongly for her to have temporary accommodation at a local caravan park.
Unfortunately Sally made some unwise decisions during her stay at the caravan park. The owners of the caravan park informed Winsome staff that they were kicking Sally out.
Staff at the Winsome had a firm conversation with Sally exhorting her to take greater ownership for the decisions she was making. The conversation was very firm and frank, and also done in a caring and compassionate manner.
About a month after that conversation, Sally reported to Winsome staff that she had found an apartment to rent that is within her budget. She asked Winsome staff to accompany her to the inspection, in case she needed any support liaising with the rental agents.
Winsome staff were happy to accompany her, and proud of the actions Sally is taking.
